Make a difference with a bus ticket

Something as simple as a bus ticket can really make a difference. We are raising bus money to go towards transport costs for asylum seekers within Sydney to enable them to travel to The Asylum Seekers Centre for education and their one sponsored meal a day. Donate online or drop tickets and bus fare in the Bus Stop donation box in the Synagogue foyer.

Why not make it your weekly mitzvah!

About The Asylum Seekers Centre

The Asylum Seekers Centre of NSW provides a welcoming environment and practical support for community based asylum seekers who have fled persecution or other dangers in their countries. It relies on grants, donations and public support to enable it to assist over 500 asylum seekers each year.

There are many asylum seekers who travel to the Centre to access the social and development programs it runs. For those with limited English, the classes are an essential means of them learning to communicate, and can be the only social connection they have with other people. The daily lunches provided at the Centre are sometimes the only hot meal of the day they will receive.

“When I first came to the Centre, in the night I could not sleep, I was thinking too much of my troubles in my own country. But at the Centre they helped me a lot and took care of me. I went to the English, yoga and computer classes. It was the first time in my life that I used the computer. Everyone there is very encouraging and dedicated and it is where we get most of our help. I would like to say thank you to them.”

“It was the only place I had to go. They were the only friends I had. I knew no one in Australia. I came every day.”

“We are so grateful to the Centre for everything they have done for us. Not only in practical terms but also the emotional support and encouragement they have provided.”
