Emanuel Synagogue is committed to promoting tzedakah (acting justly) and tikkun olam (mending
the world). We promote the tradition of providing assistance to disadvantaged members of our
community and seek to overcome divisions in the wider community through our Social Justice Group and other programs. We acknowledge the plight of the stranger/outsider, and work to enhance understanding, empathy and communication through inter-faith dialogue.
Our Social Justice Group has active relationships with the UPJ’s social action program, Mazon, and the North Shore Temple Emanuel’s Jews for Social Action. Our outreach activities are also based on collaborations with organisations such as the Exodus Foundation, the Asylum Seekers Centre, the Kings Cross Interfaith Centre, St Canice’s Church, Matthew Talbot Centre and the Council for Christians and Jews. We engage with activities that support Indigenous communities, peace and human rights.

Something as simple as a bus ticket can really make a difference. Emanuel Synagogue is raising money to go towards transport costs for asylum seekers within Sydney to enable them to travel to The Asylum Seekers Centre for education and their one sponsored meal a day.
